Friday, July 13: New York State Blues Festival starts today

Oh yeah, the hottest of all the summer festivals, the New York State Blues Festival, kicks off today in Syracuse’s Clinton Square and you don’t want to miss a thing. Music starts at 4:30 p.m. with an acoustic performance by Anders Osborne with Johnny Sansone.

Today’s lineup also includes Mick Hayes (5:30 p.m.), Anders Osborne with Johnny Sansone – electric (6:30 p.m.), Monkey Junk (7:45 p.m.), and Matt Schofield (8:45 p.m.). A three-day pass is $25. Daily admission is $10. This year’s festival also includes a Club Crawl featuring even more blues at some of Syracuse’s best club venues. A pass is $10 and buys admission to any or all the venues. Here’s tonight’s club lineup:

  • Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.) – Jimmy Wolf (8.45 p.m.), Oli Brown (10:00 p.m.), Matt Schofield (midnight)
  • Redfield’s at the Crown Plaza (701 E. Genesee St.) – The Super Delinquents (8.45 p.m.), Mick Hayes (10 p.m.), Billy Thompson (midnight)
  • Laffayette Room at the Crown Plaza (701 E. Genesee St.) – Bluesfest Jam Session (9 p.m. to 2 a.m.)

  • Downtown Canandaigua Art and Music Festival featuring bands including Grand Canyon Rescue Episode, Dan Eaton Band, Nevergreen and The Fools at Main Street, Canandaigua -
  • Djug Django on the Cornell Arts Quad in Ithaca, 7 p.m. – Free admission.
  • Terry Brennan and Dan Testa at the Adirondack Scenic Railroad (train running from Utica to Remsen and starting at 6 p.m. at 321 Main St., Utica), $40 first class, $25 coach.
  • Letizia and the Z Band at Paper Mill Island (136 Spensieri Ave., Baldwinsville), 6:30 p.m. - Free admission.
  • NY Country Jam 2012 with Lyndsey Highlander, Steel Magnolia, Gretchen Wilson (Madison-Bouckville Antique Festival Grounds, Bouckville) 
  • Women’s Right to Rock Festival at the People’s Park (35 Water St., Seneca Falls), free admission.
  • 3 Inch Fury, Gridley Paige and Dashboard Nixon at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino Showroom (Thruway Exit 33, Verona), 8 p.m. - $20 at the door.
