Saturday, Jan. 29: Party for a Cure at Sharkey's and much more today

There will be a gathering of some great local bands today at Sharkey's Sports Bar and Grill (7240 Oswego Road) for the 2011 Party for a Cure benefit for Ovarian Cancer Awareness in CNY. Music starts at noon and features performances by The Gary Dunes Band, The Fab 570, About Time Band with Sheela Tucker, The Replacements with Dee Weeks, The Mojo Band with Lisa Henderson, and a special performance by Todd Hobin and Doug Moncrief. The SU Dance Team will be on hand along with Bloodline Karaoke.

The event features food, raffles, a buffet, and one free drink or soda. Music starts at noon and admission is $20 ($15 for those under 21).

  • The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra and students from the Center of Ballet and Dance Arts present Dance Fever at 10:30 a.m. at the Mulroy Civic Center’s Crouse-Hinds Concert Theater (411 Montgomery St.). Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
  • Honor Bright, Still Rings True, Groundsbreaking Ceremony, Lacerda, Short Notice and Hush It’s a Secret at Lost Horizon (5863 Thompson Road, DeWitt), 5:45, admission $8.
  • Community Drum Circle at the Kellish Hill Farm (3192 Pompey Center Road, Manlius), 1 p.m. - $5 donation.
  • The Elders at the Capitol Theatre (220 W. Dominick St., Rome), 7 p.m. $35 at the door.
  • Carlene Carter at the Smith Opera House (82 Seneca St., Geneva), 8 p.m. - $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students.
  • Christine Lavin at the Auburn Public Theater (108 Genesee St, Auburn), 8 p.m. - $23.
  • Kenny Neal at the Center for the Arts (72 S. Main St., Homer), 8 p.m. - $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $10 for students, under 18 admitted free.
  • Words and Music Songwriters Showcase with Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers and featuring Mike Powell, Joanne Perry and Sarah Aument at Jazz Central (441 E. Washington St.), 8 p.m. - $10.
  • Cole Family Benefit with 3 Inch Fury,, 10:2 Midnight, Caastophre Me, Stix and Stonz, White Noise, and Amethyst at Scriba V.F.W., Scriba, noon-11 p.m.
