Dio Day Cortland 2012 Tribute Concert set for July 7

The second Dio Day Cortland 2012 Tribute Concert will take place July 7 at the J.M. McDonald Sports Complex (4292 Fairgrounds Drive, Cortland). Proceeds from ticket sales will be used to support musical enrichment in the Cortland area and fund cancer research.  Ronnie James Dio, for whom the event is dedicated, died May 16, 2010 of stomach cancer. He grew up in Cortland and formed his first band  in 1957 when he was still in high school.

Bands scheduled to perform at the event include Steve Southworth and Rockabilly Rays (1 p.m.), The Wreckly (2 p.m.), Charlie Bertini Band (3 p.m.), The Hurtin' Units (4 p.m.),  The Cafferty Band (5 p.m.), Mark Doyle and the Maniacs (6 p.m.), The Rods (7 p.m.), Blind Spots (8 p.m.), and Hangman's Heart (9 p.m.).

Gates open at noon. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at various Cortland businesses, including The Hollywood Restaurant, Hyde's Dinner, Sheridan's Jewelry, and Jim Vandeuson Music, as well as The Haunt in Ithaca. Tickets will also be available at the gate the day of the event.

Benefit for Rob and Kathy Dunn set for July 22

A benefit for Rob and Kathy Dunn, who were involved in a serious motorcycle accident May 28, has been planned for July 22. The Dunns, who live in Oneida were both critically injured when they were struck by a car in Verona.

The benefit, which will run from 2 to 6 p.m.,  will take place at Nothin' Fancy (10 Ruth St., Vernon). Jerry Yerman, Tongue and Groove, and Ray Coston and Friends will perform.

Admission is $10.

Friday, June 8: Balloonfest starts today

Another staple of pre-summer, the Jamesville Balloonfest kicks off today at 4 p.m. at Jamesville Beach State Park (4110 W Shore Manor Rd.,Jamesville). The event, which runs through Sunday, features balloons from all over the country, crafts, food, and of course, great live music. Today's lineup includes Victus (6 p.m.). Rumours (Fleetwood Mac Tribute - 7:15 p.m., and Electric Chick Magnets (9 p.m.). Admission is $10 at the gate. 

Polish Festival
The 58th Polish Festival also starts today. The festival, which kicks off at 4 p.m. in Clinton Square, runs through Sunday. Click here for the daily entertainment schedule. Admission is free.
