Jazz Fest moving to Jamesville Beach

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney announced Tuesday that the 30th annual Syracuse Jazz Fest will take place at Jamesville Beach. The annual event had been held on the campus of Onondaga Community College since 2001.

Mahoney cited high demand for the new SRC Arena on the OCC campus and the large crowds that are drawn to the event as reasons for the move.

JazzFest originated in a Syracuse club in 1982, but became a popular summer event during its ten-year run in Clinton Square. Major artists, including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Grover Washington, Jr.,Chuck Mangione, Blood, Sweat & Tears, George Benson, Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Nancy Wilson, have played the event. Festival organizer Frank Malfitano has not yet announced the dates or lineups for this summer's event.

Rockin' the Red Cross at the Landmark April 20


Rockin' the Red Cross, one of Central New York's most popular fundraisers, returns to the Landmark Theater (362 South Salina Street) Friday, April 20. The event, which benefits the American Red Cross of Central New York will feature ten bands from area companies.Music starts at 6:30 p.m.

Ted Long and Amy Robbins of Syracuse radio station 93Q return as hosts for the event.

“There's a fire over the weekend or overnight and the first thing you hear is the fact that there were people from the Red Cross that were on hand to help out these families, just one of many, many things that they do," Robbins said of the Red Cross.

Last year's winners,  the CXTec Dinosaurs, will start off the night. Also performing this year are CSB (C&S Companies), The Chillerz (Carrier Corporation), Staff Infection (East Syracuse Minoa School District), The MOSFETs (Inficon), Defense Mechanism (Lockheed Martin), Old School (Manlius Pebble Hill School), Under the Radar (SRC/SRCTec), and The Distributorz (WYNIT).

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the American Red Cross Web site or at the Red Cross office in at 220 Herald Place, Syracuse.  Tickets are also available at participating company and will be available at the door for $20 the night of the show. Refreshments will also be available for purchase.
