Saturday, Nov. 24: The Last Waltz at the Palace

Some of the best musicians in Syracuse will join together tonight to present 'Syracuse's Last Waltz,' a tribute to The Band's whose final concert was immortalized in the movie 'The Last Waltz.'  The event, originally scheduled for the Westcott Theater, will take place at the Palace Theatre (2384 James St.).

The show features members of Los Blancos (Colin Aberdeen, Steven T. Winston, Mark Nanni and Mark Tiffault) as The Band. Also performing are: Scott Ebner, Gary Frenay, Jason Barady, Kim Monroe and Chris Eves, Donna Colton, Rex Lyons, Tim Herron, Arty Lenin, Pete McMahon, Jess Novak, Dugan Henhawk, Ed Zacholl, Michael P. Ryan, Joe Whiting, Mark Hoffman and Carolyn Kelly.

Tickets are $25 at the door with proceeds to benefit people affected by Superstorm Sandy and the Westcott Community Center. Anyone who brings a non-perishable food item will get a coupon for a free beer from Empire Brewing.

Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show will start at 9 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 23: Holiday festivities in downtown Syracuse.

2009 tree lighting event in Syracuse's Clinton Square
The annual Home for the Holidays celebration takes place tonight in and around Syracuse's Clinton Square. Entertainment starts at 6:30 p.m., and features Joey Nigro and John Nilsen, the Gospel Workshop of North America Syracuse Chapter, the Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, and Corcoran Live! Syracuse mayor, Stephanie Miner will light the tree.

Admission is free, but you're encouraged to bring a  non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Central New York. 

 Other events will take place at the the Erie Canal Museum, Hanover Square and the Onondaga Historical Association. Prior to the event, the Landmark Theatre will be open with music from the Chittenango High School Choir and Spirit of Syracuse Chorus performing. The movie Elf will be shown at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 18: Benefit for victims of Hurricane Sandy today at Dinosaur

Area musicians will gather today at Upstairs at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (246 W. Willow St.) as part of a benefit for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The event starts at 1:30 p.m. and runs through 10:45 p.m. A $10 donation is suggested. Attendees are also urged to bring items to help those affected, including household cleaning supplies, tools, snow shovels, winter clothing, bedding, personal hygiene items, and non-perishable food items. A delivery truck will be on site.

Friday, Nov. 2: Sunshine Boys in B'Ville and more tonight

The Baldwinsville Theatre Guild presents Neil Simon's 'The Sunshine Boys' this weekend (and

next) at the Presbyterian Education Center (64 Oswego Street, Baldwinsville). The show, which is directed by Pat Bridenbaker and produced by Robin Brindenbaker, features John LaCasse, Jon Wright, Jon Barden, Kathy Egloff, George Glaski, Kate Hoy, Pat Bridenbaker, Jay Burris, and Keith Kobland as the announcer.

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students, and $13 for seniors for the matinee only. Ticket price includes coffee and dessert at intermission.
