Friday, Nov. 25: Holiday festivities in downtown Syracuse


The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony takes place tonight in Syracuse's Clinton Square. The event includes performances byu the Chittenango High School choir, the Spirit of Syracuse, and the Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps. The tree will be lit at 8 p.m.

Here's a rundown of events:
  • 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Free ice skating (weather permitting)
  • 8 p.m.: How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Landmark Theatre (362 S. Salina St.) - Free admission
  • 4 to 8 p.m.: Open house at the Onondaga Historical Association (321 Montgomery Street )
  • 7 p.m.: The Hanover Square Association’s annual Yule Log Lighting 7 p.m. at Hanover Square.
  • All day: The Art Mart at City Hall Commons.
  • 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Reception at the Erie Canal Museum (318 Erie Blvd. E.) - Gingerbread Gallery admission $5 adults, $4 seniors, $2 children.

  • Black Metal Friday featuring All That Is Sacred, Disfigured Death and Time Under Earth at the Lost Horizon (5863 Thompson Road, DeWitt), 8 p.m. - $5.
